Sustainability
at SI

Creating immersive football worlds comes with real-world responsibility.

Creating the most immersive realities

At Sports Interactive, we're creating the most immersive realities in sports gaming. It's game on, on repeat.

But developing games is part of something bigger. We're mindful of our, and the industry's, impact on the planet and are constantly evolving to achieve our goals in the most meaningful and sustainable way.

Our sustainability journey revolves around three core dimensions:

Our Office

Reducing our footprint where we work

Our Games

Low environmental impact, same passion

Our Community

Using football to open doors

Together for the win

Our Office

From our Here East home base, the studio has a strong connection with the local environment and supports the campus’ commitment to reduce its footprint.

  • 100% renewable electricity powers our team's creativity
  • Repurposing and upcycling furniture with our HereEast neighbours and the support of First Mile
  • We promote recycling and celebrate HereEast’s initiatives

Beehives on our building's roof don't just provide honey - they're vital pollinators for the surrounding environment.

What we build matters.
How we build it matters more.

Our Games

We looked at what we can do to reduce the environmental impact of our games.

We were early embracers  of ‘digital first’ sales, moving to Steam in 2012. However there remains a global demand for physical products, particularly in international territories, so in 2019 we started looking at minimising the footprint of our digital products and have been innovating ever since.
Our digipaks:

  • Are now 100% recycled and recyclable
  • Use water and vegetable inks
  • Use up to 73% less carbon emissions*

Our Journey to Net Zero

SI has a target to achieve Net Zero by 2040. Since 2024 we’ve also been offsetting the carbon impact of our games’ physical copies. We’re choosing to invest in projects that can help remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through Indian Carboneers and Leeds O.C.O Technology Carbon Capture.

We know there’s more that we can do and that’s why we are proud members of the Sustainable Games Alliance and United Nations Playing For the Planet.

These memberships fuel collaboration with our industry peers, helping to develop approaches to decarbonisation and sync up on industry-relevant issues and challenges.

We are committed to understanding and lowering our carbon footprint and collaborating closely with our parent company SEGA on a decarbonisation strategy, ultimately guided by their sustainability strategy and vision.

As part of SEGA Europe, we work closely with our parent company on joined sustainability initiatives and are driven by SEGA Sammy’s sustainability vision and commitments.

Our Community

Community is at the heart of who we are. Collaborating with organisations that create opportunities, inspire change, and strengthen connections both locally and across the football world fuels our passion.

Our partnerships and initiatives reflect our belief in using the power of football, creativity, and education to open doors for the next generation:
